In 2010, President Obama issued a challenge to the U.S. education system to create more than 1,000 new STEM-focused schools, including 200 high schools.
According to a report from the President’s Council of Advisors on Science
and Technology (PCAST, 2010), a
greater portion of the U.S. populace
needs to be better prepared in science,
technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to meet the challenges
the country faces in energy, health, the
environment, and national security.
An innovative response is the cre-
ation of inclusive STEM high schools.
